Will Smith slaps Chris Rock.
I am not a Chris Rock fan. I actually despised him for a while when channel 5 decided to show "Everybody hates Chris" every minute of the day (it felt like it) and I agree that the joke he told was tacky.
But I think that Will Smith was out of order by resorting to violence.
It would be perfectly exceptable for him to stand up and say something, even go up to the stage and verbally confront him. But he didn't do that.
He "defended his wife's honour" by slapping him.
And this seems to be ok with the majority of people on social media today. People, women especially, think he's some kind of hero.
I've been told that it's a man's job to defend his woman. That women can't defend themselves and it's not allowed for women to defend themselves.
This from women. I see feminism is dead and buried. It's like it's 1822 again.
I do/did like Will Smith and up until that point, I was glad he was in the running for an Oscar but now, I think he should have it taken from him and have some sort of sanction put on him (a years ban or something) as it's crazy that he publicly assualted someone and then ten minutes later, winning an Oscar and crying, saying that he did it to "protect his family".
I'm not saying Will Smith is an abuser (i believe that he's not) but it is a fact that abusers cry and say they are sorry after hitting their partner and plead forgiveness and his speech felt...off to me. Like a manipulation to get people to feel sorry for him.
He did wrong and needs to face some punishment. And, I wouldn't be heartbroken if Chris Rock didn't appear at the Oscars again.
